Vietnamese traditional martial art popularised in Switzerland

A performance of Vietnamese traditional martial art (Vovinam) was staged on May 4 night at Unil sports centre, Lausanne city, Switzerland.

The fighters come from the Son Long Quyen Thuat section of the Vovinam International Federation.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen ThePhiet underlined the thousand-year history of the Vietnamese traditionalmartial art, which, he said, is part of the country’s cultural heritageand pride during the national construction and defence.

A sport official of Lausanne said Son Long Quyen Thuat has beenpracticed by many Swiss people of different ages to improve theirhealth.

Talking with the Vietnamese New Agency’scorrespondent, Philippe Clement, President of Son Long Quyen Thuatschool in Switzerland, said the school was founded in 1947 in Franceby the late martial arts instructor Nguyen Duc Moc.

Vovinam is not only a kind of sports but also a mean of practicing theart of living, he said, expressing his hope that martial art willcontinue to be popularised in his country.-VNA
