Vietnam is aiming to have 10-15 athletes competing at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in shooting, athletics, swimming, gymnastics, fencing and weight-lifting, according to the General Department of Sports and Physical Training.
Vietnam brought only 382 athletes to the 28th Southeast Asian Games 2015 in Singapore but won 73 gold medals, 53 silvers and 60 bronzes to finish the region’s biggest sports festival in the top three for the seventh time.
Rowing and shooting won five gold medal in the morning to cement Vietnam’s second-placed position on the medal table at the 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore with 53 gold medals.
The Vietnam Military team will compete in the International Military Sports Council (CISM) Military World Games 2015 which is scheduled to be held in Mungyeong, the Republic of Korea on October 2.
The ambassador noted that among the 300,000 Vietnamese residing in the RoK, around 3,000 are living in Pyeongtaek and contributing actively to the local economy. Ho expressed his hope that the local authorities will continue support the overseas Vietnamese community in the city.
