Vietnam’s credit information centre breached, VNCERT confirms

Hanoi (VNA) - The Vietnam Cyber Emergency Response Team (VNCERT) has confirmed a data breach at the National Credit Information Centre (CIC), with initial findings indicating a targeted cyberattack designed to steal personal data.
According to VNCERT, the agency received a cybersecurity incident report on September 10 stating signs of personal data compromise at the CIC.
Upon notification, the Department of Cybersecurity and High-Tech Crime Prevention under the Ministry of Public Security instructed VNCERT to coordinate with relevant units, including major cybersecurity service providers Viettel, VNPT, and NCS, as well as CIC and the State Bank of Vietnam, to verify the incident. They immediately carried out technical response measures, strengthened network security protocols, and collected evidence to facilitate legal proceedings.
Authorities are still working to determine the full extent of the compromised data, with the exact number of affected records continuing to be assessed and documented.
VNCERT issued warnings to organisations and individuals, asking them not to download, share, and use any leaked data. Violations will be handled in accordance with regulations.
