Vietnam’s mission to UN opens funeral book for Party leader Do Muoi

Vietnam’s permanent mission to the United Nations held a ceremony to pay tribute to former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Do Muoi on October 4 and opened a funeral book from October 4 through October 5 (New York time).

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s permanent mission to the UnitedNations held a ceremony to pay tribute to former General Secretary of theCommunist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Do Muoi on October 4 andopened a funeral book from October 4 through October 5 (New York time).

The mission held one minute’s silence and offered incense inmemory of the former Party GeneralSecretary. Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam tothe UN, recalledcontributions of the leader during more than 70 years serving the CPV and thecountry.

Many overseas Vietnamese, foreign ambassadors and representatives fromdelegations to the UN, international organisations in New York and localofficials came to the mission’s headquarters to pay respect to the formerVietnamese Party chief.

Former General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee Do Muoi was bornon February 2, 1917, in Dong My commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi. He passedaway in Hanoi on October 1 at the age of 101 due to serious illness. He servedas General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee from June 1991 to December1997, and was presented with an insignia of 80-year Party membership.

Vietnam will hold a State funeral and two days of national mourning forhim on October 6 and 7.-VNA
