Vietnamese young masters grabbed five gold medals in blitz chess event at the 2nd East Asia Youth Chess Championships taking place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from June 17-26.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese young masters grabbed five gold medals inblitz chess event at the 2nd East Asian Youth Chess Championshipstaking place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia from June 17-26.

The medals were won by Nguyen Thai Minh Hieu, Pham Tran Gia Phuc, Tran DangMinh Quang, Vuong Quynh Anh and Nguyen Hong Anh.

Seven other players brought home silver medals.

The championship drew the participation of 584 players from 12 countries andterritories, comprising China, Hong Kong and Taiwan (China), Indonesia, Japan,Malaysia, Mongolia, the Republic of Korea, Russia, Singapore, Vietnam and theUK.

The players, aged from 6 to 18, compete in three categories: blitz chess,standard chess and rapid chess.

The tournament continues on June 22 with standard chess competitions.-VNA
