The policies have created a varied and vividreligious life all over the country, the Foreign Ministry’s spokesmanLuong Thanh Nghi affirmed when answering to reporters’ questionregarding to the US Department of State’s “2011 International ReligiousFreedom Report”.
“Over recent years, Vietnamese-US relationshave developed on many aspects. Both sides have conducted frank andconstructive dialogues on many issues, including the freedom of religionand belief,” he stressed.
“Vietnam always welcomes UScongressmen and governmental officials to visit, in order to increasetheir understanding and have a clear and objective view of the country’ssituation, including the religious beliefs and practices of thepeople,” he added.
“Regrettably, although acknowledgingVietnam’s achievements in securing the people’s rights to freedom ofreligion and belief, there are biased remarks based on incorrectinformation in the US Department of State’s report,” the spokesman said.
“Wehold that the US’s objective and accurate views on Vietnam’s situation,including the freedom of religion and belief, will contributepositively to promoting the healthy development of Vietnamese-US tiesin accordance with the benefits and aspirations of both governmentsand peoples,” Nghi noted./.
The visit marks the Vietnamese Party General Secretary’s first state visit to the RoK in his new role. The RoK’s invitation to him as the first “state guest” under its new administration signals the high priority it places on the relationship with Vietnam and its Party chief personally.
