VNA, regional steering committees enhance communication cooperation

The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and the steering committees for Vietnam’s northwestern, Central Highlands, and southwestern regions convened a meeting in Hanoi on November 18 to examine the media outlet’s coverage of these regions.

The function was attended by VNA GeneralDirector Nguyen Duc Loi, Vice Chairman of the Northwestern CommitteeTruong Xuan Cu, Standing Vice Chairman of the Central HighlandsCommittee Tran Viet Hung, and Vice Chairman of the SouthwesternCommittee Duong Quoc Xuan.

Since the VNA and the committeessigned cooperation agreements for the 2013-2016 period in May 2013, VNAmedia sources, including the agency’s television channel, pictorials,and online and printed newspapers, have actively featured these threeregions in Vietnamese, foreign and ethnic minority languages, a reportsaid.

VNA publications highlight the economic, cultural, andsocial issues of these regions in a timely and comprehensive manner,with a special focus on difficulties in implementing Party and Statepolicies as well as the operations of the steering committees.

Ontheir part, the committees created the best possible conditions for VNAcorrespondents to do their job and called upon local authorities toprovide precise information for reporters.

During the meeting,participants pointed to a number of shortcomings in their communicationefforts and VNA’s coverage, and identified a course of action for thetime ahead.

Accordingly, the agency’s media sources will continueto run stories on these regions and expand their coverage of theState’s policies and laws, as well as the committees’ operations.

Notably,a column on the regions will be run in the weekend issue of VNA’s TinTuc (News) newspaper to serve as a mouthpiece for the three committeesand local residents.

The VNA will also continue to revise itspublications, particularly those distributed in these regions. From 2015onwards, the agency will publish another three bilingual versions ofthe pictorial “Dan toc va Mien nui” (Ethnic Minorities and MountainousAreas), namely in Vietnamese and Co Tu, in Vietnamese and Sedang, and inVietnamese and Tay languages.-VNA

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
