Vulnerable communities in disaster zones to receive support

A programme to support communities in the disaster-affected areas of northern Dien Bien province, Hai Phong city and southern Tien Giang province was launched on March 31.
A programme to support communities in the disaster-affected areas ofnorthern Dien Bien province, Hai Phong city and southern Tien Giangprovince was launched on March 31.

The three-year programme aimsto increase the disaster preparedness and resilience of 6,000 vulnerablechildren and 30,000 community members.

The Disaster RiskReduction (DRR) in Vietnam project aims to improve the safety of 12schools and to reduce the risk and impacts of disasters throughproviding training for teachers and children on disaster preparednessand methods to reduce the consequences of disasters.

The projectwill also support communities in organising disaster-prevention drillsand developing plans for better resilience, as well as advocating forthe use of risk-reduction education in communities and schools.

Theproject will be funded by the Prudence Foundation and implemented bySave the Children in coordination with the Ministry of Education andprovincial centers for flood and storm control from 2015 to 2017.

Everyyear, two million people are estimated to be affected by the frequentstorms and typhoons that hit Vietnam. The majority of them are childrenwho are living in high-risk areas.-VNA

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
