Winners of UPU letter-writing contest announced

Hanoi (VNA) - Close to 600,000 letters were sent from around Vietnam to the49th holding of the Universal Postal Union (UPU)’s International Letter-WritingCompetition, for children under the age of 15.

Thecontest tasked students to “Write a message to an adult about the world we livein.”

Contestantssent heart-wrenching letters on pressing issues of today, such as COVID-19,environmental protection, and plastic pollution, or mulling over the concept ofhappiness and kindness in the modern world.

Manystories featured the true values of love, family, and friends in the digitalera, and also the pressure children must bear these days, while others spokeout against domestic violence and dreamed of a better world for children.

The firstprize was awarded to Phan Hoang Phuong Nhi, a seventh-grader at Duy Tan MiddleSchool in Hue, the capital of the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, in aceremony held in Hanoi on June 26.

Herletter conveyed a touching message about the environment and why people shouldreduce their use of plastic bags and foam food containers to protect theenvironment and human health.

Theorganisers also presented three second and five third prizes as well as 30 honourablementions. Special prizes were also given to five children with visualimpairments.

In thecontest, the 33rd held in Vietnam, each contestant submitted a handwrittenletter of less than 800 words, with entries closing on February 25.

They couldwrite letters in any language but foreign-language letters must have been accompaniedby translations into Vietnamese, which is used in the judging./.

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
