Work starts on Thailand-China high-speed railway

Thailand and China on December 21 kicked off the construction of a high-speed railway project’s first route from Bangkok to Thailand’s northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima.

– Thailand and China onDecember 21 kicked off the construction of a high-speedrailway project’s first route from Bangkok to Thailand’s northeastern provinceof Nakhon Ratchasima.

The commencement ceremony was chaired by Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha,with vice chairman of the National Reform and Development Commission of China WangXiaotao and senior officials of the two countries also in attendance.

The 3.5-kmroute connects Klang Dong and Klang Asok stations in Nakhon Ratchasima provinceand is scheduled to be completed within six months. It is part of the 253-kmfirst phase of the railway linking Bangkok with Nakhon Ratchasima province,which costs 179 billion baht (5.37 billion USD).

In July this year, Thailand’s cabinet approved aninvestment of 5.2-billion USD for the project.

Per an agreement on the project, China is responsible for designing the railway,supervising construction, manufacturing of trains and signal systems andtraining work.

Once completed, the railway with a maximum speed of 250 km per hour will be thefirst high-speed railway of Thailand.-VNA
