A scientific workshop on measures to promote sustainable maritime economic development took place on November 2 in Hanoi.

Hanoi (VNA) – A scientific workshopon measures to promote sustainable maritime economic development took place onNovember 2 in Hanoi.

The event was jointly organised by the Institute of Human Geographyunder the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) and the Vietnam Geography Association.

Experts said that Vietnam has made great achievements in sea-based economic developmentbut it has yet to fully tap strengths of maritime resources.

Maritime economic sectors using non-renewable resources such as oil and gasindustry have significantly contributed to the country’s GDP but these naturalresources are running out, they noted.

Participants said Vietnam needs to enhance exploitation and use of clean andrenewable energy resources from the sea, and focuses on building and perfectingfinancial mechanisms with tax and fee systems related to the use of maritime resourcesand space./.
