Young NA deputies group set up

A group of young National Assembly deputies has been established under a resolution of the NA Standing Committee, bringing together deputies under 45 years old on a voluntary basis with the aim of creating a platform for them to exchange ideas and share experiences.

The resolution was announced at a ceremony in Hanoi on March 27.

The move also aims to help build young deputies’ capacity and improveaccess to information related to elected deputies’ activities, relevantpolicies and national socio-economic development.

The group is also expected to boost cooperation through itsinteraction with international organisations and parliaments in issuesof youth interest, ultimately strengthening its participation in NAactivities.

The group has a Standing Committeeheaded by Chairman Nguyen Dac Vinh, who is also First Secretary of theHo Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee and President ofthe Vietnam Youth Federation (VYF), and four Vice Chairmen, Dinh CongSy, Pham Tat Thang, Nguyen Huu Duc and Dinh Thi Phuong Lan.

Addressing the ceremony, Vice NA Chairwoman Tong Thi Phonghighlighted the key role of youth in political activities to strengthendemocracy and foster global social improvement.

The role of youth in parliament and elective agency activities hasbecome increasingly significant and practical, fostering their presencein legislation, supervision and decisions on the nation’s most pressingissues, Phong said.

The NA has seen an increasein the percentage of young candidates and elected deputies over the pasttenures, the legislator said, and added that it is a strongdemonstration of the trust of Vietnamese voters in the creative andproactive young generation.

She also urged thegroup to accelerate their operations and effectively join the youngparliamentarians forum at the 132nd Assembly of Inter-ParliamentaryUnion (IPU-132), which will open in Hanoi on March 28.-VNA
