5G and IoT: Key to digital transformation in Hung Yen IPs

While the high-speed and low-latency nature of 5G offers a "bloodline" for data transmission in production systems, IoT provides the "nervous system" to connect devices, machinery, and sensors.

Hung Yen (VNA)🔜 – Hung Yen, a leading industrial province in northern Vietnam, is making significant strides in applying digital technologies to its manufacturing sector, with key strategy being deployment of 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure in industrial parks (IPs) and clusters.

Hung Yen recognises that adopting these technologies is essential to maintaining its position as an industrial hub. While the high-speed and low-latency nature of 5G offers a "bloodline" for data transmission in production systems, IoT provides the "nervous system" to connect devices, machinery, and sensors. The locality plans to build 1,229 additional 5G base transceiver stations by 2026, bringing the total to 1,335 stations. It will also focus on deploying an IoT platform to manage and collect data from thousands of devices, and testing and optimising the quality of 5G services and IoT applications in practice.
The rollout of 5G and IoT is expected to boost competitiveness, attract investment, and support digital transformation in the province's industrial parks. The development of 5G and IoT infrastructure in industrial zones will automate and optimise production processes based on real-time data, reducing errors, waste, and downtime, and improving product quality. IoT sensors continuously monitor production parameters to ensure tight control over quality. Moreover, predictive maintenance capabilities help companies reduce operational costs by preventing machinery failures before they occur. Hung Yen is prioritising the construction of 5G stations and core networks to provide stable and high-speed connectivity across industrial zones. This will not only upgrade internet speeds but also create a reliable and flexible environment for specialised industrial applications.
With transmission speeds capable of handling large data volumes in real time, 5G supports data analysis on cloud platforms and artificial intelligence (AI). The low latency of 5G (around 1 millisecond) enables remote control of robots and machines with high precision, a crucial factor for autonomous systems and human-free production. Moreover, 5G can connect millions of devices per square kilometre, making it ideal for industrial parks with dense sensor and IoT device networks. Alongside the 5G network, Hung Yen is focusing on implementing an IoT platform to connect, manage, and collect data from thousands of devices. This platform acts as the "brain" of a smart production system, processing information to enable timely decision-making. A representative from the Hung Yen Business Association said that the province is laying a solid foundation for building a digital industrial ecosystem where companies will compete not only on price but also on innovation and efficiency. Successfully implementing 5G and IoT in industrial parks will attract high-tech enterprises, create quality jobs, and contribute to the sustainable development of the local economy./.
