AnGiang (VNA) - The Mekong Delta province of An Giang is striving toearn 890 million USD in export turnover in 2019, up 5.95 percent against theprevious year.
Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade Doan MinhTriet said An Giang sees a strong export growth of key products such as aquaticproducts, rice, textiles and frozen vegetables in both traditional and newexport markets. The province is working hard to realise its export-importstrategy, he added.
An Giang is paying attention to improving the quality of export products, and boostingexports to potential markets such as the Republic of Korea, Japan, and Europeancountries.
For aquatic products, enterprises are seeking to expand exports to China and Africa in thecontext that local exporters are facing difficulties related to tariff barriersand food safety quarantine in the US and European Union markets.
The local authorities have planned to give support to enterprises in seekingexport markets through regularly providing market information related to price,trade policy, while trade promotion activities will be enhanced.
Effortswill be made to get information about the export-import policy of China andCambodia, thus supporting local firms to promote investment in border areas.
In 2018, An Giang recorded the strong export growth of its key products in traditionalmarkets such as the Philippines, Malaysia, Cambodia, Singapore, China, and theUS. Local exporters also enteredpotential markets such as the RoK, Japan and European countries.
An Giang’s export turnover in the year hit 840 million USD, up 2.42percent year-on-year. It mainly exported rice, textiles, and frozen vegetables.

Several dozen large-scale rice fields with areas of between 100 and 2,000 hectares have been put to use in the Mekong Delta for the ongoing summer-autumn rice crop.
Agricultural processors should develop their local distribution systems and not just focus on exports if they wish to develop sustainably, said an official at the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).
Ho Thi Kim Thoa, deputy minister of industry and trade, said the domestic market for farming goods and services in 2011 showed a year-on-year increase of 24.3 percent and reached 2,004 trillion VND (95.4 million USD).
She said that if processors only focused on exports and did not expand their share of the local market they will be vulnerable to global downturns. Meanwhile, she said, foreign firms have expanded their market share in Vietnam .
Export turnover in Tien Giang province hit 1.32 billion USD in the first nine months of this year, up 23 percent compared to the same period last year - the highest growth recorded thus far.
