Vientiane (VNA)♌ – An event named “ASEAN Family Day” was held in Vientiane, Laos, on August 23 to celebrate the 58th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The event, hosted by the Indonesian Embassy in Laos in coordination with the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs, brought together officials and staff from ASEAN embassies in Vientiane, Lao officials, and local residents. From early morning, the area around Patouxay Square – one of Vientiane’s most iconic landmarks – was filled with cheerful voices and laughter. Diplomats, embassy staff and their families gathered to join a collective walking activity. The morning walk symbolised both a commitment to healthy living and the solidarity of the ASEAN community in Laos.
Indonesian Ambassador to Laos Grata Endah Werdaningtyas said the ASEAN Family Day was not only a chance to celebrate the founding of ASEAN but also an opportunity to honour the unity of member states. She noted that the event helped ASEAN embassies in Laos share joy, culture, and friendship while reflecting the spirit of “growing stronger together.” The programme continued with a lively aerobic session, where participants enjoyed music, exercise, and togetherness. The sporting activities were designed to improve health as well as to strengthen the friendship within the ASEAN community.
Breakfast followed, featuring traditional dishes prepared by the embassies of ASEAN member states. The diverse menu gave participants the chance to taste the rich cultural flavours of Southeast Asia, further deepening mutual understanding and goodwill among nations. The Vietnamese Embassy in Laos presented popular dishes such as fried spring rolls and delicate banh bot loc (tapioca dumplings), which received warm appreciation from international friends and local people./.
