Jakarta (VNA) – Authorities of Jakarta capital city of Indonesia will adjust working hours of local offices during time of the 18th Asian Games 🦋(ASIAD 18) to ensure safe travelling of athletes to the competition venues.

Jakarta’s Vice Governor Sandiaga Uno on June 7 said that local authorities have set up a simulator map of the city’s traffic and will notify people the venues of the ASIAD 18 to avoid nonessential travel to those areas. Besides, staff members of state agencies who are working near the venues of the Games need to follow the city’s new working hours to ease traffic flow near the places.   The city also piloted a traffic route from the athletes’ village from Kemayoran district of Jakarta to venues in the Bung Karno sport complex in Senayan. Accordingly, it took a maximum time of 34 minutes or only 27 minutes in stable traffic condition.

In addition, local authorities will discuss with the Ministry of Education and Culture to change school time of the city’s students, aiming to reduce traffic jams during ASIAD 2018.

The ASIAD 18 will draw 15,000 athletes and coaches from 45 sport delegations competing in 40 sports, 67 disciplines and 463 events. More than 30,000 volunteers will support the event.

The Games will feature 32 Olympic sports in a bid to help athletes prepare for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Competitions of 38 sports will be broadcast live.

The Games will take place in Jakarta and Palembang from August 18 to September 2, 2018.
