A full moon festival was held in Hanoi on September 24 for nearly 1,000 children from disadvantaged backgrounds in the city. Present at the event were Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan and representatives from the National Assembly Committee for Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, and the municipal People’s Committee.
The programme is expected to bring a happy Mid-Autumn Festival to the needy children, said Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu. Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan presented 30 scholarships worth 20 million VND (880 USD) each to students with outstanding academic performance.
On the occasion, local authorities granted 1,000 gift packages to children being cared at child protection centers. A similar programme was held in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak on the same day for 1,500 ethnic children from the underprivileged communes in Ea Sup border district. The provincial Department of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs, the Children Sponsoring Fund, and businesses presented 60 scholarships, 200 gift packages, and 38 bicycles to impoverished children.-VNA
