Can Tho: Plan for Mekong Delta Green Tourism Week finalised

Final plans for the Mekong Delta Green Tourism Week 2015 was approved during a meeting between the Southwest Region Steering Committee and the Mekong Delta Can Tho city authorities and relevant bodies on March 5 in the city.

The festival, the first of its kindin the region, will take place between June 26 and July 2 in Phu Thuward in the Cai Rang district, said Deputy Head of the Southwest RegionSteering Committee Nguyen Phong Quang.

It willfeature several events, including a fair with 1,200-1,500 booths,cuisine and street festivals, Miss Delta Pageant finale, an artperformance contest for tour guides, and a series of conferences topromote regional tourism.

The events seek to enhancesustainable tourism development in the Mekong Delta region as part ofVietnam’s strategy through 2020; boost investment, particularly ingreen tourism; identify ways to create links between regionaldestinations and other local and international sites; and lure morevisitors.

The Tourism Week is co-organised by theSteering Committee in conjunction with the Ministry of Culture, Sportsand Tourism and the Can Tho municipal People’s Committee.-VNA
