Da Nang eyes 8 million tourists by 2020

Da Nang city in Central Vietnam has set out its goal of welcoming 8 million tourists per year by 2020 with two millions of them international visitors generating a total revenue of 27.4 trillion VND.

Da Nang (VNA) – Da Nang city in Central Vietnam has set out its goal of welcoming 8 million tourists per year by 2020 with two millions of them international visitors generating a total revenue of 27.4 trillion VND (1.2 billion USD).

In order to achieve the ambitious goal, the municipal authorities will focus on measures to turn Da Nang into an interesting and prestigious tourist destination.

Those measures include the creation and promotion of high-class tourism products, ensuring security and order, and keeping the city clean.

The city Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism regularly organise “Green-Clean-Beauty Sunday” campaigns as part of “The 2016 Year of Urban Culture and Civilisation.”

The department also plans the installation of cameras to ensure tourists are free from being followed by beggars or street vendors at some major tourist sites such as Ngu Hanh Son or the Hai Van Pass.

Tran Chi Cuong, Deputy Director of the department, said promotional programmes to major markets like China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Southeast Asian countries, Europe and North America will be carried out at travel fairs.

Leaflets, books, films and video clips on the city’s tourism will be produced as well to introduced on local and international channels, Cuong said.

The city also boosts the effectiveness of the tourism information centres and representative offices in foreign cities, making use of them to call for investment and cooperation.

According to the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the city has welcomed over one million tourists since the beginning of this year, an increase of 19.6 percent and equal to 20.2 percent of the yearly plan.

Of which, the arrival of international tourists accounted for 405,000, up 30.1 percent.

The total revenue was 3,000 billion VND (130 million USD), up 17.5 percent the same period last year.

In 2015, the city welcomed 4.68 million tourists, ranking it in the fourth place in terms of the number of tourists, behind Hanoi, HCM City and Quang Ninh.
