Hanoi (VNA) – The first container train from Russia to Vietnam hasrecently arrived at Yen Vien station in Hanoi.

The train carrying cosmetic productsdeparted from Vosrino station on the outskirts of Moscow, passing throughZabailkalsk-Manzhouli border gate of the Russia-China border andPiangxiang-Dong Dang border gate of the China-Vietnam border.

Travel time was 23 days, including time forcustoms procedures at border gates. The time is only equal to half of that bysea, while the cost is much cheaper than by air.

Viacheslav Kharinov, Chief Representative ofthe Russian Trade Office in Vietnam, said this is an important milestone in thetwo countries’ trading activities as container transportation services by trainwill help facilitate the travel of goods, thus contributing to increasingimport-export turnover.

The train route is part of an agreementbetween the Russian Railways (represented by RZD Logistics) and VietnamRailways (represented by Rail Transport and Trading Company- RATRACO). The twosides are working to cut travel time to 18 days.

Recently, Vietnam Railways launched severalcontainer train routes connecting Hanoi and China’s Nanchang, Nanning andGuangzhou.

RATRACO said that it will open new routeslinking Vietnam and China’s Qingdao, Shenglong and Wuhan cities, and test theoperation of several container trains to the country’s Chengdu to facilitatethe export of Vietnamese goods to Europe such as Duisburg of Germany andMalaszewicze of Poland.-VNA
