Hanoi (VNA) – Downpours, triggered by an intertropical convergence zone across the north of Vietnam since August 13, have taken their toll in s﷽ome provinces.

In the northern central province of Thanh Hoa, 200mm rainfall and follow-up flooding was recorded in Muong Lat district on August 14, killing one people and washing away four houses, Cao Van Cuong, Chairman of the Muong Lat district People’s Committee said.
The district was inaccessible to transport means as several sections of National Road 15C connecting this mountainous district with other localities were eroded. More than 30 hectares of rice and other crops were damaged.
As complex rain developments are forecast, local authorities have evacuated 10 families from flood-prone areas and readied plans to minimise flood impacts and assist people, he added. As of 11am of August 14, a landslide in Binh Thuan commune of Van Chan district, Yen Bai province, injured three people. Eight houses in Hat Luu and Binh Thuan communes of this northern mountainous province collapsed, said the provincial steering board for disaster prevention, search and rescue. In Tram Tau alone, heavy rains have destroyed 900 square metres of rice, 6 hectares of other crops and 57 fish farming ponds. The road linking Hat Luu and Xa Ho communes were damaged.-VNA
