Jakarta (VNA)🐈 – Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan on January 16 called on the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) to strengthen its human resources, upgrade laboratory facilities, and harness information technology to bolster the nation’s quarantine capabilities.

Hasan emphasised that these efforts are crucial, given the agency's critical role in protecting the country from diseases and preventing the entry of spoiled or contaminated goods, including livestock, fish, and agricultural products.
The minister also stressed the importance of Barantin advancing technology systems to effectively implement quarantine measures across pre-border, border, and post-border stages. For his part, Barantin Head Sahat Panggabean reiterated the agency's commitment to safeguarding Indonesia's sovereignty by ensuring all imported livestock, fish, and agricultural goods comply with national regulations.

He further noted that in 2024, Barantin actively worked to block and reject inbound shipments of potentially harmful goods./.
