Internal commission’s head Nguyen Ba Thanh passes away

Nguyen Ba Thanh, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Internal Affairs, passed away at 13:00 on February 13 in the central city of Da Nang due to fatal disease, according to the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Internal Affairs.

Thanh, who was alsomember of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Standing Head of theCentral Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption, was diagnosed with bonemarrow disorder and initially received treatment at the Central MilitaryHospital 108 in Hanoi.

Later he was brought to Singaporefor treatment, and at the advice of Singaporean doctors, Thanh’s familytook him to the United States in mid-August last year.

Accordingto American health experts and relatives, the official underwentchemotherapy while waiting for bone marrow transplant. However, as hishealth condition did not meet requirements for bone marrow transplant,US doctors and his family decided to stop chemotherapy and focus onimproving Thanh’s health.

He returned to Da Nang on January 9 for continued treatment at the municipal General Hospital.

Afuneral ceremony for him will be held at his residence in Da Nang.The respect paying service will be from 14:30 on February 14.

The memorial service will be organised at 9:30 on February 16. He willbe laid to rest the same day at his hometown of Hoa Tien Commune, HoaVang district, Da Nang city.

Nguyen Ba Thanh,62, was born in Da Nang’s Hoa Vang district. He served as Chairmanof the People’s Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee of thecity before becoming the Head of the Party Central Committee’sCommission for Internal Affairs.-VNA
