Hanoi (VNA) – President TranDai Quang beat the drum to start the 2018-2019 school year at Chu Van An high schoolin Hanoi on September 5, on the occasion of its 110th foundinganniversary.

Speaking at the ceremony, the President urgedstaff and students of the school to build on past achievements to improveteaching and learning, deserving the “leading flag” of the city’s educationsector and the nation’s.

The school was asked to discover and fostertalents and improve the skills of managerial and teaching staff.

He wished that students would strive andnourish their ambitions to become good citizens, contributing to the nation.

The same day, National Assembly ChairwomanNguyen Thi Kim Ngan attended a ceremony to begin the new school year at Le HongPhong School for Gifted Students in Ho Chi Minh City.

Addressing the event, the NA leader laudedits students for winning six international, 66 national, 70 regional and 411city prizes in the past school year.

She asked the city to prioritise land andfunding for education-training and renew management mechanism in the field.

As a new education scheme is to be piloted,she called attention to training and teachers and offering them manyincentives, thus attracting quality education personnel.

The top legislator suggested raisingstudents’ awareness of political ideology, social and start-up skills, towardstraining them into global citizens.

On the occasion, she presented gifts towell-performing students who were admitted to major universities in the city.

In Tu Mo Rong district, the CentralHighlands province of Kon Tum the same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phucbeat the drum to kick off new school year at Tu Mo Rong ethnic boarding school.

The school is home to 14 classes with 385students, 382 of whom are ethnic minorities.

In his speech, the PM affirmed that theParty, State and Government always create favourable conditions for studentsand young generations of ethnic minority groups to develop themselves.

He expressed his delight at the fact that98.7 percent of students passed the high school graduation examination and 30percent were admitted to universities and colleges in the past school year.

The leader requested enhancing teachingequipment, creating a friendly, safe and healthy learning environment forstudents while giving priority to children of poor and invalids’ families.

At the event, he also presented 500 sets oftextbooks to students. Minister-Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic MinorityAffairs Do Van Chien and Health Minister Nguyen Kim Tien handed over 50 millionVND (2,100 USD) to teachers and students of the school.-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.
