Hanoi (VNA) – Many National Assembly deputies have urged strengtheningthe fight against wastefulness when discussing in groups a report on theoutcomes of the work in 2017 on May 22.

“Besides corruption, we should beaware of another not less dangerous ‘enemy’ which is wastefulness, the consequencesof it are even more serious than that of corruption,” said deputy Nguyen AnhTri of Hanoi.

He noted that there are many forms of wastefulness, including intangibleones such as the waste of time and opportunities caused by the negligence andlack of responsibility of Government officials and public employees.

The deputy called for suitable sanctions in order to enforce substantivemeasures to prevent wastefulness and promote thrift practice.

Sharing the view, deputy Nguyen Minh Duc also of Hanoi said Governmentreports rarely mentioned wastefulness in a specific manner such as the scale ofthe problem, in which fields or how to recognize it.

He cited as an example the wastefulness in urban development, when theauthorities of many localities gave permission for the construction of largenumbers of housing projects, without considering the high density of populationwhich put pressure on the local infrastructure, causing traffic jams andsubsequently great waste of time, resources and fuels.

The deputy proposed some solutions to address wastefulness, one of whichis to improve macro-economic management and define long-term and short-termpriorities in order to design suitable plans for the best interests.

Planning and forecast work should be bettered, along with intensifyingadministrative reform, cutting administrative expenses, streamlining licences, andtightening management of public assets, he said.

The issue of corruption continues to draw attention.

Deputy Hoang Van Hung of Thai Nguyen province emphasized that voters payspecial attention to corruption, particularly the recovery of assets, urgingmore detailed reports on the anti-corruption fight.

Inspector-General of the Government Le Minh Khai shared the view thatrecovering lost assets is the most important point in fighting the evil.

“In order to recover the lost assets, it is important to timely detectthe violations,” he said, stressing that the Government Inspectorate andinspection agencies in localities should increase inspection and check totimely discover corruptible acts and take deterrent measures.-VNA
