Navy ship joins int'l multilateral activities in Malaysia, Indonesia

Hanoi (VNA) – Ship 20 of Naval Region 3’s Brigade172, together with a delegation of the Vietnam People’s Navy (VPN), left thecentral city of Da Nang on May 14 for international multilateral activities inMalaysia and Indonesia.
The trip, made at the invitation of Malaysian andIndonesian navies, aims to consolidate and strengthen the good friendship andcooperation between the Vietnam People’s Army in general and the VPN in particular and those of other ASEAN countries as well as outside the region, the People’sArmy Newspaper reported.
It was also intended to materialise directives ofthe Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defence oninternational integration and defence diplomacy, and improving troops’ abilityto work together in response to common maritime security challenges.
During their 5,000-mile journey, theofficers and soldiers will organise training in order to raise their combatreadiness, and conduct patrols to grasp the situation at sea.
They are scheduled to participate in activitieswithin the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) inMalaysia, including a naval vessel display, a fleet review and exercises atsea.
In Indonesia, the Vietnamese delegation will partakein the fourth Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo (MNEK-4), aninternational fleet review, and the International Maritime Security Conference.
They will also take part in various cultural andsport exchanges in those two countries./.
Sailing Ship 286-Le Quy Don and a delegation of Vietnam People’s Navy led by Colonel Huynh Vinh Tuyen, deputy director of the Vietnam Naval Academy, paid a courtesy visit to the Malaysian Royal Navy from October 4-5.
Ship 378 of Brigade 167 under the Naval Region 2 and HMS Spey, the British Royal Navy’s offshore patrol vessel, conducted a joint exercise on the waters of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province on February 11.
