Nghe An racing to rebuild homes, schools in flood-hit areas ahead of new academic year

Nghe An (VNA) – The Ministry of Public Security in collaboration with the central province of Nghe An launched an intensive 40-day construction campaign on August 12 to rebuild communities shattered by last month’s Typhoon Wipha, aiming to restore homes and schools in time for the upcoming academic year.
The project will construct 500 houses for displaced residents in the mountainous communes of western Nghe An, rebuild My Ly 2 Ethnic Semi-Boarding Primary School, which was destroyed by the recent floods, as well as restoring the My Ly commune Health Station.
Senior Lieutenant General Pham The Tung, Deputy Minister of Public Security, expressed his sympathy for the losses the locals have suffered, highlighting that the new homes will provide safe shelters against future storms, while the rebuilt school will nurture the students’ dreams despite current hardships.
These projects represent more than just physical structures as they embody the solidarity and enduring bond between the public security force and the people, he underscored.
On the occasion, Tung presented gifts to affected residents, students, armed forces, and health workers in My Ly commune. Meanwhile, provincial leaders provided livelihood support models to poor households across 17 severely impacted western communes.

The bottled water was delivered on July 29 to Huu Kiem, Tam Thai and Tuong Duong, the three communes severely affected by Typhoon Wipha in Nghe An province.
On July 24, following a directive of the Ministry of National Defence, the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army dispatched a working group to the locality to coordinate emergency aid efforts in areas cut off by floodwaters.
Two helicopters were deployed, transporting tens of tonnes of essential items such as foods, water, medicine, and life jackets to Muong Xen, Muong Tip, Nhon Mai, My Ly, and Bac Ly communes.
