Project to support physically impaired people in Thua Thien-Hue

The People’s Committee of the central province of Thua Thien-Hue and Germany’s Christoffel Blindenmission (CBM) organisation held a conference on November 7to launch a project to support people with physical impairments access support tools and relevant services.

Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) – The People’s Committee ofthe central province of Thua Thien-Hue and Germany’s Christoffel Blindenmission (CBM) organisation held a conference onNovember 7 to launch a project to support people with physical impairmentsaccess support tools and relevant services.

The project aims to helpphysically impaired people in the province access assistive devices andorthosis as well as comprehensive, equal and high-quality healthcare.

With a total cost of 7.26billion VND (312,000 USD), the project will be implemented over four yearsuntil 2022.The Thua Thien Hue RehabilitationHospital will be a direct recipient of the project.

It willsurvey the knowledge, attitude and practice of physically impaired people andtheir families, while assessing performance, providing training courses onrehabilitation services, evaluating the implementation capacity of the projectand subsidising poor people who suffer from physical impairments.

It will also focus on rehabilitationservices, integration with the community, detecting new cases, and streamlininghospital transfer procedures so that physicallyimpaired people haveeasy accessto services.

Experience of supporting thedisabled will also be shared, while training courses will be provided formedical staff in hamlets and groups, along with standardising the system formanaging people with disabilities.

Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Coordinatorof the CBM Office in Vietnam, said the project is expected to remove obstaclesfacing people with disabilities and promote a society in which no one is leftbehind.

She noted that from2014-2016, CBM assisted a community-based rehabilitation programme in the provinceto help disabled people integrate into the community and enhance their livingconditions./.
