The Republic of Korea’s Samsung Electronics and Habitat for Humanity Vietnam has implemented a programme to build houses for impoverished households in the northern province of Thai Nguyen. Nearly 100 volunteers from Samsung Electronics Vietnam Thai Nguyen (SEVT) participated in the programme from August 16-21 as part of the “New House – New Hope” project.
Habitat for Humanity Vietnam, a non-profit organisation under Habitat for Humanity International, supported beneficiaries to build and upgrade clean water systems and ensure environmental sanitation. Vietnamese and Korean volunteers provided information technology training for nearly 300 students from Thanh Cong, Phuc Thuan and Hong Tien secondary schools in Phuc Thuan commune, Pho Yen town. They also assisted Phuc Thuan and Hong Tien schools in installing games equipment and computers.
According to SEVT, the “New House – New Hope” project was launched in December last year with the aim to build 11 houses and upgrade restrooms and water supply systems for 40 low-income houses in the commune that are vulnerable to climate change. The project, worth 5 billion VND (222,250 USD), is expected to be completed by year’s end. Earlier, the Korean group carried out voluntary programmes to support communities in Thuy Hoa district of northern Bac Ninh province and Gia Lam district in Hanoi.-VNA
