– Vietnam failed to qualifyfor the AFC U16 Championship 2020, finishing second in Group H after a latedefeat to Australia in their final fixture in Hanoi on September 22.

The hosts came in only needing a point tofinish on top of the group and qualify for the tournament proper.

Vietnam took the lead in the 19th minute throughNguyen Cong Son, but the Aussies struck back in the 58th minute with a BernardoOliveira strike.

It looked like the two sides were going to splitthe points, but Luka Smyth scored with one minute left to play to giveAustralia a dramatic win.

With this defeat, Vietnam lost top spot of GroupH and also the ticket to the finals in Bahrain to Australia./.
