Vietnam, RoK enhance environmental cooperation

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamese Minister ofNatural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha and Minister of Environment ofthe Republic of Korea (RoK) Han Jeoung-ae discussed environmental cooperationprogrammes between the two countries during their online talks on September 15.

They touched upon cooperation in emission trading system,water resources, personnel training and book publishing, among others.

Ha expressed his hope for stronger cooperation andmore support from the RoK in such spheres as waste management, and circular andgreen economy.

He also proposed collaboration in designing andbuilding an exhibition centre of Vietnam nature and biodiversity, and restoringpolluted sections of the Red River in Vietnam.

Vietnam wants to learn from the RoK's experience incalculating emission peaks and solutions to achieve carbon neutrality, Ha said,adding that his ministry is drawing up a project on developing the Vietnamese carbonmarket, which is scheduled to be submitted to the Prime Minister next month.

He called on the RoK ministry to help Vietnam improvecapacity of management agencies in greenhouse gas inventory, the measurement,reporting and verification (MRV) of greenhouse gas emissions and the managementof ozone-depleting substances.

For her part, Han said his agency stands ready tocooperate with the Vietnamese ministry in environmental matters, and share itsexperience and technologies in water resources exploitation and utilisation, airpollution settlement and waste treatment./.

꧒ Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
