Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam will turn off lights from 20:30 - 21:30on March 30 to respond to Earth Hour this year.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has required corporations and units of thesector to coordinate with localities in organising campaigns to raise publicawareness on energy saving and using energy in an efficient way.

Organisations and individuals from all areasincluding schools, businesses and residential households are encouraged to takepart in these campaigns.

The capital city of Hanoi will respond to the 2019 Earth Hourwith a series of activities which will begin on March 9 and culminate in anevent from 20:00 to 21:30 on March 30 at the Cach Mang Thang Tam Square in thecity’s downtown Hoan Kiem district. 

The Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organised bythe World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It has been described as thelargest world grassroots movement for the environment, with the involvement ofaround 7,000 cities in 172 countries and territories so far. 

In Vietnam, activities responding to the EarthHour are coordinated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade with the support ofthe Electricity of Vietnam (EVN). The EVN has been the main sponsor of theEarth Hour movement in the country for 10 consecutive years, since Vietnamjoined the campaign in 2009.-VNA

Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment effor🎉ts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
