New York (VNA) – Vietnam and the United Nations have inked amemorandum of understanding (MoU) on Vietnam’s deployment of a field hospitalto South Sudan.

The MoU was signed by Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of thePermanent Delegation of Vietnam to the United Nations, and UN Under-Secretary-Generalfor Field Support Atul Khare at the UN headquarters in New York on September26.

It demonstrated the two sides’ cooperation in maintainingpeace.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Khare expressed his beliefthat Vietnam will deploy a high-quality hospital that can effectively contributeto the UN’s peacekeeping activities, and his hope for more contributions fromVietnam to this important mission.

This is the first time Vietnam has sent military doctors toparticipate in the UN’s peacekeeping force. The see-off ceremony will beorganised on October 1 at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat InternationalAirport.

Specifically, 63 military doctors, most of whom are fromMilitary Hospital 175, will travel to South Sudan, along with medicalequipment, to take over a field hospital of the United Kingdoms whose personnelare about to withdraw.-VNA
