Vietnam’s CMC Corporation cooperates with Korean firms in hi-tech projects

CMC has forged enduring ties with Korean tech giants, including Samsung SDS, SK Telecom, LG, and Hyundai IT. As Samsung SDS’s Global Delivery Centre, CMC has carried out over 125 projects with more than 1,000 engineers, generating about 20 million USD in revenue.

Hanoi (VNA) 💃– Vietnam’s CMC Corporation has cooperated with Korean groups in many hi-tech projects, and put forth joint initiatives in artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, digital transformation, and workforce training.

CMC has forged enduring ties with Korean tech giants, including Samsung SDS, SK Telecom, LG, and Hyundai IT. As Samsung SDS’s Global Delivery Centre, CMC has carried out over 125 projects with more than 1,000 engineers, generating about 20 million USD in revenue. In 2019, Samsung SDS took a strategic stake in CMC, expanding collaboration in data centres, transmission infrastructure, and cloud services for Samsung’s factories in Vietnam and worldwide. Samsung SDS’s investment in CMC has grown to 1 billion USD. In 2024, CMC established a permanent presence in Seoul with a new office, signaling deeper engagement with the Korean market.
Building on its longstanding experience and solid partnerships, CMC aims to represent Vietnam in cooperation with the Republic of Korea (RoK) in sci-tech, innovation, and digital transformation. At the Vietnam - RoK science and technology cooperation dialogue, held during Party General Secretary To Lam’s state visit to the RoK from August 10–13, CMC put forward five strategic proposals. These included establishing an inter-governmental committee on strategic cooperation in science - technology, and digital transformation; building a Centre of Excellence (COE) to train 1,000 engineers, facilitating the transfer of 11 strategic technologies, with a priority to semiconductor chips, AI cores, and high-performance computing (HPC); conducting joint studies between CMC and Korean universities, partnering with the Korea Open University Alliance to deliver online AI courses enabling Vietnamese students to earn Korean credits and dual degrees.
CMC has also built a network with 14 leading Korean enterprises, universities, and educational establishments. Examples include Samsung C&T’s investment in a hyperscale data centre in Ho Chi Minh City; CoAsia Semi Korea’s work on AI chip design and semiconductor training labs; TmaxSoft’s software development and market expansion; and academic ties with Busan University of Foreign Studies, Pukyong National University, and Gwangju University for training, research, and staff exchange. These agreements highlight CMC’s growing global technology capabilities and expand Vietnam - RoK cooperation in 11 strategic areas, including AI, semiconductors, digital transformation, cybersecurity, and education. Through its C.OpenAI platform, which fosters AI application connecting and sharing, and its extensive network of partners, CMC is solidifying its role as a pivotal AI-X bridge for cross-border AI cooperation between the two nations, steadily reinforcing its position in AI transformation and globalisation./.

✨ Vietnam launches six 4.0 technology training and talent networks

The networks bring together universities, research institutes and domestic and foreign businesses. Members will work closely in training, research, and technology transfer by sharing curricula, improving faculty capacity, providing access to laboratories and research facilities, and jointly implementing science and technology projects.

Vietnam is actively yet cautiously preparing for the construction of its first nuclear power plant in Ninh Thuan (now the south-central coastal province of Khanh Hoa). The resumption of the programme after years of suspension carries considerable significance for the nation’s development in a new era as it strives to gradually reduce and ultimately phase out coal-fired power to realise the Government’s commitment to Net Zero by 2050.

🦹 PM chairs national committee's meeting on semiconductor development

Vietnam has issued many key policies to support semiconductor development, notably the Politburo’s Resolution 57 on science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation. Other initiatives include the Semiconductor Industry Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2050, and the Human Resources Development Programme for the Semiconductor Industry.
