– The Myanmar governmenthas pledged to promote the government-corporate-society (GCS) partnership forwater security and sustainable development. Speaking at the Asia-Pacific Summit onWater which opened on December 12 in Yangon, Myanmar’s State Counsellor AungSan Suu Kyi said the GCS partnership will offer great opportunities for waterservice enterprises within the framework of integrated water resourcesmanagement in Myanmar. The Myanmar government will continue itsefforts to strengthen water security and develop the necessary policy and legalframework for water-related investment in the country. Aung San Suu Kyi alsoinvited potential investors at home and abroad to engage in the country's bidfor sustainable development of water resources. Pointing out that the Asia-Pacific regionis the most prone to water-related disasters in the world, she warned that therising frequency of water-related disasters in the region has forced theMyanmar government to respond with unity and resilience. She urged all governments in the region todo more to cope with the growing climate change challenges, citing a report ofthe Asian Development Bank that only a number of countries have been investingwisely in disaster risk reduction projects and programmes. The third Asia-Pacific Summit on Water,hosted by the Myanmar Ministry of Transport and Communications, was attended byleaders from 48 countries in Asia-Pacific region.-VNA
