Hanoi (VNA) – Cambodia has asked the US to consider converting the debt thatCambodia has owed to the country since the 1970s into development aid.
Cambodian PrimeMinister Hun Sen made the suggestion during his talks with US President DonaldTrump on November 13 on the sidelines of the 31st ASEAN Summit and relatedmeetings in Manila, the Philippines.
PM Hun Sen saidhe had also raised the issue with Trump’s predecessor, Barack Obama.
During the 1970-1975period, the Cambodian Government borrowed some 200 million USD from the US.With interest, the debt now exceeds 500 million USD.-VNA
