COVID-19: Malaysia reports highest daily infection number
Malaysia on July 28 reported 17,405 new COVID-19 infections in 24 hours, the highest daily number since the pandemic broke out in the country, raising the national count to over 1.06 million.

Hanoi (VNA) – Malaysia on July 28 reported 17,405new COVID-19 infections in 24 hours, the highest daily number since thepandemic broke out in the country, raising the national count to over 1.06million.
Malaysia has suffered the third wave of COVID-19 sinceSeptember 2020. Since April, the number of daily count has risen from fourdigits to five digits.
Malaysian health director-general Noor Hisham Abdullah saidthat the pandemic is predicted to hit its peak in mid-September with 24,000cases each day before dropping to under 1,000 cases in October.
The effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccine is at 75 percent if100,000 second doses are administered a day. It can reach 80 percentby October if 150,000 second doses are injected, he explained.
On July 27, Malaysia made a new record in vaccination with 553,871 shots in a day. This was the third time the country had administered over500,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses into locals in one day. As of June 27, thecountry had given the vaccine jabs to over 12.48 million people,equivalent to 38.2 percent of its population. Meanwhile, 5,905 people received second shots.
At the same time, Cambodia experienced another day with a low number of newinfections.
The country’s Ministry of Health confirmed 766 new COVID-19infections in the past 24 hours, including 307 imported cases, pushing thenational total caseload to 75,152.
Fifteen more fatalities had been registered, taking the overall death toll to1,339, the ministry said, adding that the total number of recoveries is 67,692.
The same day, Cambodia’s Khmer Times cited the World Health Organisation’s warning that Cambodia had to be mindful, watchful and vigilant against asymptomaticDelta or Delta Plus variant COVID-19 carriers.
Cambodia had vaccinated over 6.94 million people, or 69.4percent, of the 10 million targeted adult population as of July 27. The country’scapital city of Phnom Penh will give first COVID-19 dose to adolescents aged from 12-17 from August 1-4 and the second dose from August 22 to September 5.
The country aims to inoculate 13 million people across the nation, including 2 million adolescents aged from 12-17./.
