Foreign ministers issue Bali joint declaration

The Foreign Ministers of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member states have jointly issued a Bali Commemorative Declaration to pay tribute to the founders of NAM and former leaders of its member states.

The document was issued at the 16th Ministerial Conference and the 50th Commemorative Meeting of NAM in Bali, Indonesia on May 25.

According to the declaration, the FMs stressed the need to enhance therole of NAM as a key driving force in addressing international issuesof common concern to its members, as well as issues that promoted unityand dealt with global issues by further consolidating common agreementamong members.

They reiterated their commitment tostrengthening collective actions of NAM and enhancing its leading rolein defending and promoting the interests of developing countries.

The declaration also listed a series of goals and principles that NAMwould promote in the future, including goals of achieving a safer andmore secure world, rejecting unilateral sanctions imposed on NAMcountries, and rejecting actions aimed at unconstitutional change ofgovernments or attempts at regime change.

It alsoaffirmed Palestinian freedom, the expansion and deepening of South-Southcooperation, as well as close coordination with the G7 developingcountries and China, and combating terrorism and transnational organisedcrime.

Earlier, Indonesian President SusiloBambang Yudhoyono called on NAM to take a more proactive role in shapingthe new world in the 21st century.

NAM, with thepower of 118 member states, could be a greater force for peace, justiceand prosperity in the 21st century, he said./.
