HCM City exhibition highlights nation’s 80-year development journey
A photo exhibition named “From the era of independence and national reunification to the era of the nation’s rise” opened in Ho Chi Minh City on August 19 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 – 2025) and National Day (September 2, 1945 – 2025).
HCM City (VNA) - A photo exhibition named “From the era of independence and national reunification to the era of the nation’s rise” opened in Ho Chi Minh City on August 19 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 – 2025) and National Day (September 2, 1945 – 2025).
The exhibition is held simultaneously at Nguyen Hue pedestrian street in Sai Gon ward, Dong Khoi street (in front of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports), and the area opposite Chi Lang Park.
On Nguyen Hue pedestrian street, the organisers display over 100 photos featuring the developments of the 1945 August General Uprising and the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, highlighting the historical struggle to establish and defend the country.
On Dong Khoi street, 70 photos are showcased, introducing Ho Chi Minh City, including the former provinces of Binh Duong and Ba Ria – Vung Tau, which is entering a “new era.” This era is marked by significant changes in scale, development orientation, and strategic vision, aiming to become a megacity and a key growth pole for the country and the region.
In the area apposite the Chi Lang Park, the exhibition showcases the culture and tourism highlights of Ho Chi Minh City. It features photographs that capture the beauty of nature, the people, significant cultural and historical landmarks, architectural arts, and coastal tourism, reflecting the vibrant and dynamic essence of the city.

The largest painting in the exhibition, measuring 7.2 metres long and 2.4 metres high, is painted on both sides. One side, entitled “President Ho reads the Declaration of Independence”, recreates Ba Dinh Square on September 2, 1945, while the other, “Spring of the Nation”, captures the jubilant celebrations of the Vietnamese people on Independence Day.
The exhibition will take place from August 28 to September 5 at the Vietnam Exposition Centre in Hanoi's Dong Anh commune under the theme “80 years of agricultural and environmental development for national prosperity and sustainable future”.
Through the perspectives of multiple artists, with diverse and vivid styles and visual languages, the artworks on display portray those who quietly devoted their youth, energy, and even lives to defending and building the nation.
The exhibition vividly demonstrated the spirit of great national solidarity through rich and diverse content, highlighting the principle that the people are the foundation and the true makers of history, according to the PM.
Taking place over 19 days, the exhibition was a highlight of celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day. It not only reviewed milestones of the past eight decades but also inspired patriotism, national pride, and aspirations for sustainable growth and integration.
The moves were made in response to an appeal from the Vietnam Red Cross Society, marking the 65th anniversary of Vietnam – Cuba diplomatic relations (December 2, 1960–2025) and highlighting the enduring solidarity between the two nations.
A representative of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union expressed her hope that FAO will continue to accompany Vietnam in promoting high-tech and environmentally friendly agriculture, delivering tangible benefits to farmers.
The close attention and guidance from Party and State leaders, the encouragement from central and local agencies, along with the trust from both domestic and international press agencies and the public have formed a tremendous source of motivation for VNA journalists to fulfil their mission as the nation’s key multimedia wire service and a strategic and trusted information centre of the Party and the State.
