Indonesia intensifies tourism promotion during ASEAN chairmanship year

Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno has said that the country’s chairmanship at the 2023 ASEAN becomes an opportunity to strengthen and promote Indonesia's tourism potential.

Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy SandiagaSalahuddin Uno has said that the country’s chairmanship at the 2023 ASEANbecomes an opportunity to strengthen and promote Indonesia's tourism potential.

During his working visit to Malang, East Java,on April 16 , the minister cited that Indonesia's chairmanship is anopportunity to prove that Indonesia's domestic tourism sector is the best inthe region

He said he believes that Indonesia's tourism sector is currentlyconsidered superior when compared to other ASEAN member countries such asMalaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines. He said that Indonesia's tourismpotential is considered very large.

With the very promising potential of the tourism sector, itmust become the main focus to revive the Indonesian economy which waspreviously hit by the pandemic, the minister added.

He also pointed out some regions with hightourism potential such as the Greater Malang area where is home of a number oftourist villages that have been receiving national and international awards. Oneof them is the Pujon Kidul Tourism Village in Malang District, which receivedthe 2021 Indonesian Tourism Village Award (ADWI) for the InspirationalIndependent Village Category.

There was also Sanankerto Village which won third place inthe Tourism Attraction Village category and received appreciation from internationalforums for its participation in the 5th ASEAN Rural Development and PovertyEradication Awards in 2022, he noted.

As an effort to improve the quality of thetourist village, he emphasised that the government will provide assistance toexisting tourism and strengthen the promotional effort to optimise itspotentials./.
