Indonesia, UNDP cooperate to develop new capital as sustainable city

Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia'snew capital city (IKN) Nusantara Authority and the United Nations DevelopmentProgram (UNDP) are collaborating to build a sustainable city in IKN Nusantara,East Kalimantan.
According to head of IKNNusantara’s authority Bambang Susantono, the collaboration will accelerate thegoal to realise IKN Nusantara as a city for all.
He remarked that the IKNauthority and UNDP had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to worktogether in building a sustainable city in IKN Nusantara.
The MoU will serve as the basis for joint initiatives in various efforts torealise eight main principles of IKN development, including building the cityin accordance with nature, reflecting unity in diversity, building a connected,active, and accessible city, enabling low-carbon emissions, being circular andresilient, promoting safety and accessibility, ensuring safety and efficiencythrough technology, and increasing economic opportunities for all, Susantono stressed.
In the future,the two parties will encourage inclusive, just, productive, and sustainabledevelopment practices, he added.
Susantono affirmed that this collaboration will also assist the Indonesiangovernment to establish IKN Nusantara as a symbol of national identity towardsrealising the Indonesia Vision 2045.
Earlier, the authority of IKN Nusantara and the Centre for Livable Cities(CLC), an institution part of the Singapore Ministry of National Development,had collaborated to develop a livable city at IKN Nusantara./
