Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesia's National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) has warned of a shift in terrorism tactics, moving from public attacks to online platforms that target vulnerable groups, particularly women and children.
The agency has identified approximately 2,200 social media accounts circulating over 10,500 terrorism-related posts from January 1 to September 29, 2024. These posts, found on platforms like Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and WhatsApp, include terrorist propaganda, online attack coordination, recruitment, and the spread of hate content. Meanwhile, no public terrorist attacks have been recorded in the country since 2023.
In response, Indonesian security officials emphasised the need for the government to strengthen preventative measures against online terrorism, especially as the percentage of youth exposed t🌌o terrorist content has doubled over the past seven years, reaching 0.6% in 2023./.
