Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and a high-ranking delegation left Hanoi on the night of July 5 for an official visit to the US from July 6-10.

The visit is made at the invitation of the US administration.

The Party leader is accompanied by Tong Thi Phong, Politburo member and Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly; Le Thanh Hai, Politburo member and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Pham Binh Minh, Party Central Committee member, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister; Hoang Binh Quan, Party Central Committee member and head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations; among others.

The delegation also includes representatives of war veterans, religious dignitaries, intellectuals and entrepreneurs.

This is the first time a General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam has made a visit to the US.

The visit takes place at a time important to Vietnam-US relations, as the two countries are marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.

During the visit, the two countries’ highest leaders will discuss future orientations for further developing their bilateral relations and deepening the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership, with a focus on the fields of investment, trade expansion and fa𒆙cilitation, education-training, science-technology and defence-security.-VNA
