Thailand is to host its first yacht show at the end of this year, aiming at promoting tourism and stimulating the economy.
Theannouncement was made by Deputy Minister of Transport AkomTermpittayapisit who said that the idea was proposed by Prime MinisterGeneral Prayut Chan-o-cha.
The Prime Minister envisioned thatthe fair would draw as much attention as the Motor Expo, expecting yachtmanufacturers to come to showcase their new, luxurious models at thefair. General Prayut said the campaign will help promoting yacht tourismin Thailand.
According to the Deputy Minister, his Ministry andthe Ministry of Tourism and Sports will be tasked with organising thefair, adding that Pattaya and Phuket are their top choices for the eventvenue, which is likely to be held in November, the high tourism season.
In addition, the Government also has a plan to construct piersfor cruise ships in Krabi and Suratthani provinces, said the DeputyMinister, adding that the Department of Marine is currently conducting afeasibility study.-VNA
