Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - Thailand’sMinistry of Transport is set to reopen services on the Aranyaprathet-Poi Petrailway connecting the rail networks of Thailand and Cambodia.

Thai Minister of Transport ArkhomTermpittayapaisith led a team of ministerial executives to follow up on theconstruction and facilities management at Ban Khlong Luek Border CrossingTemporary Railway Station in the Aranyaprathet district of Sa Kaeo, and checkedthe tracks in preparation for the reopening of Aranyaprathet-Poi Pet railwayservice on April 22.

Services on the Aranyaprathet-Poi Petrailway have been suspended since 1965. The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) hasrenovated the line by improving its structural integrity, changing railwaysleepers, rails, braces, junctions and replacing the ballast.

The SRT is now negotiating the contractfor a service operator between Thailand and Cambodia. The deal is expected tobe signed soon in a ceremony at which a diesel locomotive will be delivered asa token of good relations between the two countries.

The reopening of the Aranyaprathet-PoiPet railway will help improve the convenience and speed of both passenger andcargo transport between Thailand and Cambodia, enhancing ties in the ASEANcommunity and promoting tourism between both sides.-NNT/VNA
