Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh has affirmed Vietnamalways considers Japan one of its leading strategic partners,particularly in economics and trade.
He madethe affirmation at a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abeduring his official visit to Japan from September 12-14 at theinvitation of his Japanese counterpart Kishida Fumio.
FM Minh also affirmed the willingness to work with the Japanese sideto consolidate and boost the two countries’ comprehensive cooperation.
Prime Minister Abe, for his part, stressed thatJapan sees Vietnam as one of its important partners in the region andwants to further develop the bilateral strategic partnership in thecoming time.
During the talks with his Japanesecounterpart Kishida Fumio and at the Vietnam-Japan CooperationCommittee’s fifth meeting, the two FMs expressed their delight at thestrong development of the two countries’ relationship since the fourthmeeting in July 2012.
They reached a consensuson specific directions and measures to further strengthen bilateralties, emphasising the importance of maintaining visits and exchangesbetween the two countries’ high-ranking leaders even through unofficialvisits or exchanges on the sidelines of international and regionalmeetings and telephone talks.
They also agreedto intensify cooperation between the ministries, sectors and localities,and promote cooperation and dialogue mechanisms such as theVietnam-Japan Cooperation Committee, the Vietnam-Japan Joint Initiativeon improving the investment environment, the Strategic PartnershipDialogue and the Defence Strategic Dialogue.
Interms of economic cooperation, the two sides praised specific resultsgained during the implementation of their leaders’ agreements, includingthe approval of Vietnam’s Industrialisation Strategy within theframework of the two countries’ cooperation up to 2020, with a visiontowards 2030.
They agreed to continue fosteringcooperation in agriculture and infrastructure, and implement importantand large-scale projects like building nuclear power plants, railwaysand airports.
Minister Minh spoke highly ofJapan’s valuable support through its official development assistance(ODA) over the past 20 years while Minister Kishida revealed that Japanwill provide Vietnam with further ODA worth 500 million USD for threeprojects in the 2013 fiscal year.
The twoFMs also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutualconcern, and agreed to strengthen cooperation at international andregional forums.

They praisedthe two countries’ successful organisation of activities to celebratethe 40 th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties, thus contributingto intensifying exchanges and mutual understanding between the twopeoples.
During the visit, FM Minh also attendedthe opening ceremony of “Vietnamese Days in Japan”, which takes placein Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe, Fukuoka and Nagoya from September 12-22.
On the behalf of the Vietnamese State and Government, FM Minhpresented Friendship Orders and the Prime Minister’s Certificates ofMerit to Japanese individuals who have actively contributed to boostingthe two countries’ friendship and cooperation.
