The former General Association ofVietnamese in Japan, the Vietnamese Youth and Student Association inJapan (VYSA) and the Vietnamese Associations in Kansai and Kanto onJuly 19 held a congress to set up the Overseas Vietnamese Associationin Japan (OVA).
The congress approved thenewly-established association’s regulations and elected a five-memberexecutive board headed by Dr. Le Van Tam, a member of the formerGeneral Association of Vietnamese in Japan.
The congress also adopted the OVA’s operation orientations for the2009-2010 term with focus on strengthening mutual assistance amongVietnamese nationals, helping develop the friendship between Vietnamand Japan .
At a party in celebration for the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to JapanNguyen Phu Binh expressed his hope that with the establishment of theOVA, the Vietnamese people’s movement in Japan will step into a newstage of development.
Japan is now home to 37,000 Vietnamese people, including 20,000 students./.
The leaders noted that the two sides had agreed to turn scientific and technological cooperation into a pillar and a new highlight of bilateral relations.
This is a crucial session to consider and give opinions on a wide range of issues to be submitted to the NA's 10th sitting – the final of the current term, which will review the 2021–2026 tenure and prepare for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s first general election.
The signed documents include a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on scientific and technological cooperation, an MoU on copyright and related rights cooperation, and another on strengthening collaboration in renewable energy.
