Vietnamese language gala celebrates cultural legacy
The Vietnamese language is likened to a river that even when flowing into the vast ocean, retains the sweet taste of home, symbolising how the language preserves the nation’s spirit wherever it is spoken.
Hanoi (VNA)❀ – Six exemplary overseas Vietnamese were recognised as “Vietnamese Language Ambassadors Abroad 2025” at a gala dedicated to honouring the Vietnamese language, held in Hanoi on August 26.
Addressing the event, Nguyen Trung Kien, Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, said this was the third edition of the programme, organised under the Prime Minister-approved initiative “Day for Honouring Vietnamese Language in Overseas Vietnamese Communities (2023–2030).” He noted that the gala has become a cherished cultural occasion for Vietnamese communities worldwide, celebrating the richness of the mother tongue while acknowledging the contributions of organisations and individuals committed to its promotion abroad.

The programme honoured winners of the 2025 “Vietnamese Language Ambassadors” contest, who demonstrated strong proficiency, inspiring stories of attachment to their language and homeland, and meaningful contributions to preserving and promoting Vietnamese overseas. Six outstanding contestants were awarded certificates recognising them as “Vietnamese Language Ambassadors Abroad 2025.”
The contest, held from March to May 2025 by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, drew enthusiastic participation from Vietnamese communities abroad as well as foreigners with a passion for the Vietnamese language and culture./.
Over the past year, the Party and State have paid special attention to preserving and promoting Vietnamese abroad through supportive policies, book donations, teacher training, and the application of technology in teaching.
The State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese reported that so far this year, ministries and localities have hosted numerous events honouring the Vietnamese language, while overseas communities have actively contributed to initiatives to promote its teaching and learning.
The activities include a Vietnamese language teaching training course for overseas Vietnamese teachers from August 13 to 28 in Hanoi, Ninh Binh, and Thai Nguyen.
Vietnam welcomes some 4-5 million Chinese visitors annually. In the first eight months of this year, Vietnam hosted more than 3.5 million Chinese. Vietnamese travellers, meanwhile, are increasingly drawn to China’s cultural and natural attractions.
On the evening of September 15 (local time), Algerian audiences enjoyed the Vietnamese film “Dao, Pho va Piano” (Peach Blossom, Pho and Piano). Vietnam was invited as the guest of honour at this year’s festival. In addition to the feature film, the country also introduced the documentary “Dien Bien: Land and People” and another featuring the 1954 Dien Bien Phu Victory for competition at the event.
Divided into three chapters with dozens of meticulously staged performances, the programme created a vibrant and emotionally rich atmosphere. The blend of tradition and modernity, powerful voices, and the solemn resonance of the symphony orchestra gave the show its distinctive hallmark.
The photo collection, which features typical landmarks and landscapes as well as the culture and lifestyle of Da Nang people, aims to introduce the image of Vietnam's central city to Korean friends.
Held on September 13-14, ManiFiesta – the annual festival of solidarity organised by the Workers' Party of Belgium – drew tens of thousands of participants from across Belgium and neighbouring countries. Alongside music, debates and cultural exchanges, Vietnam made a strong impression with a booth rich in national identity.

Vietnamese singer Duc Phuc will be among 23 artists from 23 countries participating in Intervision 2025, an international music competition often described as the “Eurovision of Eurasia", in Russia.
