The military-run telecommunications Viettel Group provided 2,787 cows to impoverished households in the northern mountainous province of Son La between September 2014 and June 30 this year, according to the provincial People’s Committee.

The move is part of the programme “Joining hands with the community- Breeding cows for the poor in border areas” implemented in the province.

Under the project, Viettel will earmark 1 million VND (46 USD) for the programme each time a customer commits to using at least 100,000 VND (4.71 USD) from their mobile phone accounts per month over three consecutive years.

🌃 The programme is being carried out by the Border Guard High Command in coordination with the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Vietnam Red Cross, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the State Bank of Vietnam, the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies, Viettel and the People’s Committees of 11 northern border provinces.-VNA
