Da Nang (VNA) 🐽– Vietnam wins 18 medals at international mathematics competition

Vietnam and Singapore were named overall champions, with the Vietnamese delegation securing 18 individual prizes, including six gold, four silver and eight bronze medals. Alongside the main awards, organisers also presented special prizes for cultural exchange, games, outstanding individual, teams in individual and group contests, and grand prizes.
Taking place from August 16 to 18, VIMC 2025 was organised in accordance with international IMC standards. This year’s competition attracted more than 500 contestants, accompanied by 181 teachers and 100 international guests, from over 30 countries and territories. Students competed in two categories: Key Stage II (Graders 5–6) and Key Stage III (Graders 7–8). Each contestant took part in two compulsory rounds – the individual and team contests – with examination papers selected from proposals submitted by expert panels from participating countries.
At the closing ceremony, organisers handed over the IMC 2026 hosting flag to Mongolia. Tran Anh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, noted that this was the first time Da Nang had hosted the event, reflecting the city’s ambition to become a reliable destination for international academic and intellectual gatherings. He said the competition not only drew students from many countries but also fostered cultural exchange, learning, and experience sharing among young talents worldwide. It also provided a platform for students to challenge themselves with complex mathematical problems while broadening their horizons and exploring practical applications of mathematics. The International Mathematics Competition (IMC) is an annual event held on a rotational basis among member countries. It is considered one of the most prestigious global mathematics contests for secondary school students, offering them the chance to compete, enhance their skills, and foster creativity and research in an international academic environment./.
